Winter Chaser

Some tracks arrive as surprises, others as moments you have been quietly waiting for. Winter Chaser was very much the second kind for me. I knew Kalamarico was working on this track, and I was genuinely looking forward to hearing where it would land.

When it finally dropped, it landed right in the middle of the Canadian winter in January, playing as I drove through falling snow (best timing ever, haha!) The road stretched ahead in that quiet, suspended state where everything feels slower and sharper at the same time. The cold outside, the warmth inside the car, and this track playing on repeat. It felt like the right setting.

Kalamarico has a way of creating music that captures movement. Winter Chaser carries that familiar sense of motion, this time wrapped in a colder, seasonal atmosphere. It feels expansive without being overwhelming, energetic without rushing. A track that makes you want to keep going, even when the weather tells you to stop.

What was the first idea or feeling that sparked Winter Chaser?

Well, the first idea was to create something “fresh,” more on a festival vibe, if that makes sense. I had our first collaboration, Wave Chaser, in mind, something along those lines. But from the very beginning I also wanted to do something seasonal: since Wave Chaser felt summery, this time it had to be winter! 😂

The title Winter Chaser feels very visual. What does it represent to you?

I’m really happy it comes across as visual, because that was something I wasn’t completely sure about at first. That’s why I wanted the cover artwork to leave no room for doubt. For me, Winter Chaser represents the idea that winter has its own kind of festivals too, just with a different atmosphere. It’s also a quiet nod to where the inspiration began, with Wave Chaser, almost like chasing the same feeling through another season. ❄️✨

I know you won’t reveal to me your production secrets haha, but what sounds or textures felt essential in shaping the mood of this single?

If I reveal everything, all the magic is gone! Hahahaha. But well, as you already know, after working on the two The Game albums together with you and Mago, I’ve learned a lot from both of you. In this track, there are a couple of pads that form the foundation of the whole song, and until now I had never really approached production that way. That’s something I learned from someone called Spacey Panda 😂. On the other hand, the drums, which are the part I enjoy the most, I wanted to give them a more house-oriented feel, and the textures I used are all about percussion (something I’ve been doing a lot lately hehe).

Did this single come together quickly, or did it evolve over time?

It definitely didn’t come together quickly. It took me several months to finish, but the core idea itself didn’t really evolve. I captured the idea quite fast, but I wanted to be careful, not rushing to finish something I felt had potential. Instead, I gave it time, went through it again and again, and eventually came back to it with fresh ears.

Was there anything unexpected that emerged while working on Winter Chaser?

Nothing really comes to mind, to be honest. Maybe the release date…I would’ve liked to put it out a little earlier, but not much beyond that.

What was the most satisfying moment during the creation of this single?

Without a doubt, the beginning. When you have the melody and it starts to sound right, and all the pieces begin to fall into place, that moment of total ecstasy, hahaha!

What do you hope listeners feel or imagine when they hear this track?

I hope it transports listeners to that unforgettable festival night, the kind of night that feels endless, where they danced until their bodies ached, lost themselves in the music, and lived every moment to the fullest! 🤞🙌🥳

To my ears, Winter Chaser feels like one of those tracks that adapts to where you are. On a dancefloor, it pushes that festival energy forward. On the road, deep into winter, it becomes something more grounding, helping me focus while the snow keeps falling. That ability to shift depending on the moment is what makes the track linger, and it’s why I can easily imagine listening to it again and again, in different settings.

Thank you, Kalamarico, for taking me along the road that led to Winter Chaser.

If you are curious to know more about Kalamarico, there’s a full interview about his path as an artist here, and another conversation with him, Mago and myself around our second EP The Game Continues here.
