Beatzguy: Creating Music That Feels Like a Story

Beatzguy

Some artists create spaces you can step into. That’s the feeling I had while listening to Beatzguy’s music. His productions blend mellow lofi textures with cinematic influences, jazz-inspired storytelling, and an emotional depth that invites listeners to slow down, reflect, and simply be present. Rather than staying confined to a single genre, his music feels like a journey that unfolds naturally and encourages listeners to connect with both the sounds and the atmosphere they evoke.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Beatzguy to learn more about the artist behind those immersive soundscapes. We discussed his creative process, the musicians and genres that have shaped his distinctive style, how he navigates creative blocks, and the philosophy that continues to inspire his work. Along the way, he also shared some surprising insights into his musical background, proving that inspiration often comes from the most unexpected places.

How would you describe your music to someone who’s never heard it before?

I like to describe my music as emotionally powerful, relaxing, and chilled out. I try to craft my songs to take listeners on a journey. I also enjoy blending different genres to create a sound that’s both unique and relatable, giving the listener a moment to connect and feel.

What track or project are you most proud of and why?

That’s a tough question because, for me, my music represents milestones in my growth as an artist. It’s about pushing my creative boundaries, and the positive response from listeners makes my projects special. If I had to choose one release to be remembered by, I’d say either Time’s Eclipse or Volume 1.

Which artists or genres have had the biggest influence on your sound?

I’ve been heavily influenced by artists like Miles Davis and Hoogway, and genres like jazz, rock subgenres, and even cinematic movie music. Miles and Hoogway make me feel like I’m reading a story, and I find that very inspiring.

Was there a defining moment that made you say, “I want to make music”?

I remember being 13 years old, watching Fuse TV music videos, and thinking to myself, “Wow, it would be really cool to travel the world, perform live, and sell CDs.” Thankfully, I’ve been able to do that ten times over, so I consider it a childhood dream fulfilled.

If your sound were a place, color, or emotion, what would it be?

Green. Because I’m not quite blue, and I’m not filled with angst either. I want listeners to feel something that moves them, and I think green represents that.

Do you have a ritual or habit that helps you get into a creative zone?

When I sit down to create, I try not to force anything and let things flow naturally. I want to enjoy the process first and foremost. Sometimes I light candles or dim the lights in my studio. When I was working on my Silent Hill cover, I remember setting my studio lights to a dark pinkish color to represent Silent Heaven from the game.

What’s something surprising people don’t usually know about you as an artist?

People are usually surprised when I tell them I used to be in a DIY punk band for about 10 years. Conversely, some friends from the DIY punk scene have told me they’re surprised I make lofi music, lol. I also love death metal and heavy music, and I enjoy listening to pop music sometimes too. I like everything, really.

How do you handle creative blocks?

Honestly, I don’t handle them very well. The best thing I’ve found is to walk away and give myself space. I treat music like a diary, it’s not something you have to write in every day.

Describe your music in three words that aren’t music-related.

Emotional, powerful, authentic.

As someone who spends a lot of time discovering new artists, I’m always fascinated by the unexpected details that shape their creative identity. I certainly wasn’t expecting a conversation that would connect DIY punk bands, Miles Davis, Silent Hill, and mellow lofi beats, but somehow, it all makes perfect sense. It’s those unexpected combinations that make an artist’s voice impossible to replicate.

Thank you, Beatzguy, for inviting us into your world. I look forward to hearing where your creativity takes you next.
