Will Samuels Interview: Finding Meaning in Lost Signal

Spacey Panda Published: August 11, 2026 | Updated: July 20, 2026 3 minutes read
Lost signal

Inspired by a simple photograph and guided by instinct rather than a rigid plan, Lost Signal, a recent release from electronic music producer Will Samuels, embraces experimentation, happy accidents, and the beauty of allowing creativity to unfold naturally. I recently had the pleasure of having a conversation with Will about the making of Lost Signal, the creative choices behind it, and the philosophy that shapes his music.

If Lost Signal is your first introduction to Will Samuels, I think you’ll quickly discover an artist who isn’t afraid to experiment and let ideas evolve naturally.

The title Lost Signal leaves a lot open to interpretation. What does it mean to you personally?

The title refers to a few different things for me. I like leaving it open to interpretation, so different listeners can find their own meaning in it.

Did the track start from a specific sound, texture, or moment, or did the idea come later and shape the production afterward?

It actually started with the cover art. I was scrolling through the nature photos on my phone and found the image I ended up using. It gave me a completely different feeling than the rest, and the song naturally grew from that.

In this track, did you lean more toward acoustic sounds, electronic ones, or a mix of both?

I chose to use only electronic sounds. Since the song is called Lost Signal, I wanted the production to have an artificial feel, which also creates an interesting contrast with the natural cover art.

Were there any unexpected turns during the production process: happy accidents or mistakes that became essential to the final version?

I actually forgot to add reverb and compression until I thought I had finished the master. Even though it’s technically unfinished, I think that’s part of what makes the track unique. It ended up becoming a mix of experimentation and forgetfulness.

What part of the track are you most proud of, even if listeners might not immediately notice it?

The ending. I spent the longest time getting the timing exactly right. It took a few days of small adjustments, but once it finally clicked, it became my favorite part of the track

If someone discovers your music for the first time through Lost Signal, what do you hope it tells them about your artistic world?

I hope it shows that I’m not afraid to experiment and let ideas develop naturally. I want people to know that every track starts with a feeling, and I’m more interested in creating something memorable than following a traditional formula.

What resonated with me most after this conversation was Will’s openness to letting ideas unfold on their own. From finding inspiration in a simple photograph to embracing what many producers would consider mistakes, Lost Signal reflects a creative mindset that values authenticity over perfection.

I’d like to sincerely thank Will Samuels for taking the time to answer my questions and for sharing a glimpse into his creative process. It’s always a pleasure to learn more about the people behind the music.
