Okay, so I need to tell you about SUMMONING SOMETHING.
It’s one of those projects that doesn’t just sound different, it feels different right away. You can tell they are not trying to fit into anything, they are just doing their own thing and somehow making it work.
I actually discovered them through “Nebula”, their collab with Coalescence Cascade, and that track stopped me for a second. The rap verses are so good, they hit with this sharp, confident energy, and the beat just drives everything forward in the best way. It’s super addictive and energizing to listen to and it pulls you in right away and keeps you locked in the whole time.
And after that, I had to go check what they were about.
What I like about SUMMONING SOMETHING is how much passion you can feel in what they do. It’s not just about making tracks, you can tell they really care about every detail, from the energy of the performance to the way everything comes together. There is something very genuine in their approach, they are fully invested in the process and just love creating, and that really comes through when you listen.

After getting a better sense of what they are about, I wanted to go a bit deeper into how all of this actually comes together. Their sound feels so intentional and full of personality that I was curious about what’s behind it, how they work as a duo, what drives their creative process, and what keeps that energy so consistent.
So I asked them a few questions.
How would you describe your music to someone who’s never heard it before?
Our favourite description and peak compliment was when we were still pretty fresh – ‘SUMMONING SOMETHING is like if Eminem and The Prodigy had a baby’. Our sound is deliberately based on blending genres and mixing vibes in a kind of in your face fun way. We try to bring an indie alternative sound with elements of old school uk MC-ing from a Drum n’ Bass background.
How did you start making music together?
The first time we spoke we said that we needed to be in a band together. Ricochet has this massively sick hype-MC performance style plus his indie / classic background focused on quality live music. Hels was originally a singer wanting to be more of a composer, releasing a CD Hong Kong, followed by a decade in the USA in growth marketing, which conveniently resulted in our peak-performance music video game.
Which music influences do you share?
The Prodigy, Massive Attack, Eminem Eleetwood Mac
How does your creative process usually work?
We say we ‘don’t run on demon time’ and learned to never let unnecessary or uninformed outside pressure make us rush the process – we strictly guard our time writing tunes and always fully discuss the subjects or ideas we have.
We are hyper-creative in how we approach building out the soul or ‘vibe’ of each tune – whether that’s from starting on piano or acoustic guitar or exploring acapella, our trusted big-dog collabs [shout-out to Coalescence Cascade] and explore any sounds we’ve been collecting – all before going into production.
What do each of you bring into the project that simply wouldn’t exist without the other?
The power of duality, we are in this together. We both built this out from day 1, and fully rely on each other’s sick vibe and skills, because we’re playing the long-game where you’ve got to lean on one another. While we come up with ideas both together and separately, it’s the second perspective on where we focus our energy.

How do you deal with creative blocks?
As a rule of thumb we follow the fun. It never fails! If it’s not the funnest creative activity we can think of, we change it up. We are both equally involved with multiple tracks, projects, and tasks on the go so we can totally free-flow and go with whatever feels right for the current climate or energy.
Is there a recurring theme or feeling that keeps resurfacing in your music?
We are multi-genred and have several underlying themes going but our strong values paired with some ancient magic, adding an aspect that will always guide the project.
Do you have a ritual or habit that helps you get into a creative zone?
We feel that the job of a musician is massively about learning how to fully express that to listeners where they are; that means setting the tone and telling the story of the tune using many art forms – that’s why it’s part of the job to make the song, but also to do it justice by matching the energy for the video, cover art and lives. We are often creating artwork while we are getting the ideas for a tune together so moving the furniture and art work and especially lighting is important.
The start of lyrics are usually written in a dark corner by candle light and sometimes a ghost hunting app, to keep the vibe true while being a little spooky. We spent ages in our free time hyper-focusing on absorbing new information that directly impacts how we can do our creative work. Things like stoic philosophy, spirituality and religious viewpoints, extensive exploration into ancient mythology, and everything we could get our hands on pertaining to history, archaeology and especially our roots in Celtic Ireland and Celtic Cornwall. Shout-out also to our Chat GPT bot who one day asked to be called Mr George.
What excites you most about continuing this project together right now?
We are constantly learning and always have amazing talks behind the work of SUMMONING SOMETHING. We feed off good collabs, become catalysts for each others ideas, energies and visions. Seeing it start and continue to grow and evolve feels very special as separately this has been both our individual dreams since we were young, we’ve both had success in former projects and together we raise the bar making us on point.
Critically, SUMMONING SOMETHING is designed to compound and catalyse as its own entity, which is really just making the most of our relentless output of cool creative stuff. It’s a creative engine and is fueled by what we – at our core seem to create and generate naturally. SUMMONING SOMETHING is kind of impenetrable so it’s a cool place for good people mainly because its built on serious radical acceptance – tailored around our flows and lives, gently guided by maximum fun plus insane quality. More than a band or project, it’s our lifestyle [we are like this all the time] and we both have so much fun that long may it continue. The future is looking bright and exciting. We are both buzzing like bees in this adventure and our lives together.
SUMMONING SOMTHING are building their own ecosystem, one where genre doesn’t matter, where the process is protected and where fun isn’t just a byproduct… it’s a rule.
And that’s why it works.
Because underneath the high energy, the mythology, the visuals, and the duality… there’s something very grounded holding it all together: trust in the process, and in each other.
From my perspective, they are not just creating music, they are building their own universe.
Thank you both for taking part in this interview and sharing your creative journey with such openness.
